CMT ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR SWEET CHARITY

Please print and fill out the audition form when you receive it via email and bring it to your audition. 

Walk-ins are welcome and will be seen in the next available slot. 

 

PLEASE PREPARE & PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR AUDITION:  

16-32 bars of a Broadway-style song that showcases your vocal range.  Sheet music in the proper key with cuts marked. An accompanist will be provided (no  CD’s, tapes or a cappella numbers). 

Shoes and clothing appropriate for a dance audition 

A copy of your resume and headshot.

ABOUT THE SHOW: 

This brassy, bold musical comedy follows the hapless but unflappable Charity Hope Valentine in  her search for love, friendship, and the chance to make it big in The Big Apple. With music by Cy  Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and book by Neil Simon, this Tony Award nominated, dance infused musical captures all the humor and heartbreak of life in 1960s New York City. 

Characters 

Charity Hope Valentine, the girl who wanted to be loved. 

Oscar Lindquist, a man whom Charity befriends and eventually falls in love with. Charlie, Charity’s boyfriend in the opening of the show, and the name on her tattoo Nickie and Helene, Charity’s closest friends who are taxi dancers at the Fandango Ballroom. Herman, the authoritarian owner of the Fandango Ballroom; Charity’s boss. Vittorio Vidal, a famous Italian movie star. 

Ursula March, Vittorio’s girlfriend 

Manfred, Vittorio’s butler 

Daddy Johann Sebastian Brubeck, the enigmatic leader of the Rhythm of Life Church. Carmen, a dancer at the Fandango Ballroom who is friends with Nickie, Helene, and Charity Rosie, the new dancer at the Fandango Ballroom. 

Suzanne, Frenchie, Betsy, and Elaine, dancers at the Fandango Ballroom Ensemble 

Sweet Charity is directed and choreographed by Genevieve Perrino, produced by Karen and  Cody Hendershot and Kathy Beiting, with vocal direction by Lena Andrews and music direction  by Shawn Charton. 

Rehearsals will begin in February, 2025, and performance dates are May 9,10,11,14,15,16,17,  2025.

This production staff is committed to bringing together a diverse group of people who are dedicated to bringing this story to life. We encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and body types, to submit an audition. We hope to unite a group of people looking to enhance the arts in our community. No roles have been precast.  *Please note, at this time, the minimum age to audition is ten (10) years old.

Come out and audition for our next studio series show, "The World Goes Round!" 
A musical revue showcasing the songs of John Kander and Fred Ebb with familiar songs from Chicago and Cabaret as well as songs from more unknown works like Funny Lady and The Rink. Filled with humor, romance, drama, and nonstop melody, The World Goes Round teaches us that no matter what life throws at us, our lives keep going and the world keeps turning.

This production staff is committed to bringing together a diverse group of people. We encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, body types, and ages to audition.  In this production of The World Goes Round, we will be expanding the original cast of 5 performers to 8 - 10 performers. The director & music director will assign songs after the show is cast.
 
Auditions
Friday, October 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Performances: February 9, 2024 – February 17, 2024 Fifth Third Bank Theatre, Aronoff Center
 
Audition Requirements:
  • Auditions will be held individually. We encourage you to sign up and secure your audition time slot HERE to avoid long wait times. 
  • Walk-ins are welcomed but will be assigned to the first available audition slot.
  • Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of one (1) up-tempo song and 16 to 32 bars of one (1) ballad that best demonstrates your vocal ability that is not from The World Goes Round. An accompanist will be provided (no recordings or a cappella numbers).
  • Make sure your sheet music is in the proper key and your cuts clearly marked for the accompanist. Vocalizing will also take place to determine vocal range.
  • Please bring shoes and clothing appropriate for a dance audition, as you will be asked to participate in a dance choreography combination. The combination will be taught during the audition, but a video of the combination will be available prior to the audition.
  • Headshots and resumes are encouraged, but not required.
  • Please bring your personal calendar for December 2023-February 2024. You will be asked to complete a conflict form to share your rehearsal availability.
